Russell Brand appeared in court to give evidence in his ongoing rape and sexual assault trial. During testimony, the comedian and actor said he had been unable to find a single person willing to testify on his behalf, describing the fallout from a September 2023 investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches as "devastating."
Struggle to Find Witnesses
Brand's barrister, Ian White, asked whether he had persuaded anyone with relevant evidence to come forward. Brand replied, "I have not." The prosecutor, referred to as Winter, then asked if potential witnesses "would touch you with a barge pole," to which Brand answered, "No."
Comments on Media Investigation
Brand also told the court he did not regard the Dispatches investigation as a documentary, stating, "I call it a TV show." The proceedings continue with further updates expected.
