Declining Gold Demand in Egypt

The current price stability coincides with significant shifts in gold demand within Egypt. Data released by the World Gold Council has revealed a decline in Egyptian purchases of the precious metal during the third quarter of 2026. Total purchases dropped to 9.7 tons, marking the lowest quarterly purchase level recorded in five years.

This figure represents a 12.6% decrease in Egyptian gold purchases compared to the second quarter of the same year, which saw 11.1 tons. On an annual basis, purchases have also fallen by 3% compared to the 10 tons recorded during the third quarter of 2025.

These statistics reflect ongoing pressures on the purchasing power of households amid rising prices and spending obligations. Despite these challenges, a segment of consumers continues to maintain an interest in gold, viewing it as a vital tool for savings and a hedge against economic fluctuations.
