Collins English Dictionary has named "mogging" as its word of the year for 2026, citing a 210% increase in usage driven by Generations Z and Alpha both online and in everyday conversation.

Managing director Alex Beecroft said lexicographers track how often words are used and analyze usage patterns to identify linguistic trends, adding that the selection shows how each generation leaves its mark on language.

The BBC's culture correspondent Noor Nanji provides an explanation of the term's meaning.
