Four people were killed and 11 injured when an Italian military helicopter crashed during a European Union peacekeeping mission in northern Bosnia on Thursday afternoon.
Crash Details
The CH-47 Chinook came down near the town of Brcko during routine training, according to a statement from EUFOR, the EU force in Bosnia. The injured are in stable condition and receiving medical treatment. No civilian infrastructure, property, or vehicles were damaged, and no civilians were hurt.
Investigation Underway
EUFOR said a “thorough and complete” investigation has been launched, with more information to follow. Photos from the Klix news portal showed the largely destroyed helicopter on a lawn.
EUFOR Mission Background
The EUFOR mission comprises 1,200 soldiers and took over from NATO in 2004 to help maintain security and oversee the military provisions of the peace agreement that ended the 1992–95 war in Bosnia.
