A Georgia woman has been charged with child abandonment and reckless conduct after leaving her 6-month-old daughter at a Jiffy Lube in Mableton and later returning with a knife demanding the child's return.

Employee calls 911

Assistant manager Jarayya Mayes said Davis handed her the baby in a stroller around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, saying the paperwork was in the bag and they could keep the child if she did not return. Concerned, Mayes called 911.

Return with a knife

About 15 minutes later, Davis allegedly returned with a knife, demanding the baby and saying she had to leave. Dispatchers instructed Mayes not to release the child until police arrived.

Arrest and charges

Officers arrested Davis. She was charged with child abandonment and reckless conduct and remains in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Baby's condition and custody

The infant was taken to a hospital, found wearing soiled clothes with multiple rashes but in overall good health. With no other family members available, the baby was placed in the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
