A former church leader and his wife have been charged with multiple counts of rape, South Yorkshire Police announced.
Stephen Timmis, 68, and Janet Timmis, 61, each face eight counts of rape against a single victim. The alleged offences occurred between May and September 2008 while Stephen Timmis was a leader at the Crowded House Church in Sheffield.
The couple, both residents of Psalter Lane in Sheffield, have been released on bail and are due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on December 1.
Police believe there may be other individuals in the community, possibly former church members, with relevant information. They are appealing for anyone with concerns to come forward, offering appropriate support.
