Russell Brand's Wife Calls Him 'Kind, Wonderful Father' at Rape Trial

By Islam El-Sakka

Russell Brand's wife, Laura Brand, testified at his rape and sexual assault trial on Thursday, describing her husband as "caring, kind and a wonderful father to our children." The 39-year-old told the jury at Southwark Crown Court in London that she feels "very seen by him" and loves him "very much."

Wife's testimony

Under questioning by the defense barrister, Laura Brand said her husband respects her when she does not want to be sexual. The couple married in 2017 after meeting at the Edinburgh Festival in 2006. She recounted that on their first meeting they had oral sex, but she did not want to go further.

Charges and plea

Brand, a media personality, faces seven charges: three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one of attempted indecent assault. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denies the allegations.

Former girlfriend's statement

The court also heard from Elia Alvarez Diaz, a former girlfriend who dated Brand from 1998 to 1999. In a statement, she described him as "gentle" and "loving," adding that when she said no, he accepted it. She said their relationship ended because he cheated repeatedly.

Trial continues

The proceedings continue at Southwark Crown Court. Brand previously told the jury the allegations have had a "devastating" impact on his relationships with friends and colleagues.
