A 39-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in New York City's Central Park over the weekend, according to the New York City Police Department.
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred on Saturday evening near East 66th Street and Fifth Avenue. Police received a call regarding the assault around 9:30 p.m. A man approached the victim and used a knife during the attack. The woman was subsequently taken to a hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigation and Official Response
Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues. City Council Speaker Julie Menin expressed outrage over the incident, stating that every New Yorker deserves to feel safe and expressing confidence that the NYPD would apprehend the perpetrator.
Recent Safety Concerns in Central Park
This assault follows another recent incident in the park, where a woman on a bicycle was attacked by three men last week. In that case, the victim sustained injuries to her face, neck, and back during the struggle before the attackers fled with her bag.
