Japanese police have arrested a 24-year-old Chinese student living in Osaka on suspicion of carrying out a pepper spray attack in Tokyo's upscale Ginza district in May.
The attack occurred at an ATM booth inside a luxury shopping complex, targeting a man in his 30s. Nearly 30 people reported throat pain and feeling unwell, with 25 taken to hospital for mild symptoms. The incident caused brief chaos as dozens of fire engines and ambulances responded.
The victim told police he did not know the suspect, according to Japanese media. The suspect has declined to discuss the incident, Kyodo News reported. Police are also searching for another man seen on security camera footage talking with the suspect just before the attack and then fleeing, the Asahi newspaper said.
