The family of a 39-year-old man who died after a car crashed into a Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton has paid tribute to him as "the absolute centre of our world." James Singh Jagpal, from Wolverhampton, was pronounced dead at the scene on Friday evening after a vehicle ploughed into the building on Finchfield Hill around 6pm.

Family tribute

In a statement released through West Midlands Police, Jagpal's family described him as a "much-loved son and brother, devoted partner of over 20 years" and a "loving father to two wonderful daughters." They said he was known for his kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour, adding: "James was the absolute centre of our world, and it is unimaginable how we will navigate life without him by our side."

Investigation continues

The driver, a woman in her seventies, was taken to hospital and later released. Police said she will be spoken to "in due course." Two other women were also hospitalised with injuries and have since been discharged. Specially trained officers are supporting the family, who have asked the public to respect their privacy and not share footage of the aftermath online.

Appeal for witnesses

West Midlands Police are working to establish the full circumstances of the collision. Officers want to speak to anyone who was driving in the Finchfield Hill area between 5pm and 6pm on Friday, and have appealed for dashcam footage showing the blue Renault Zoe involved. The supermarket has remained closed since the incident.
