An eight-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by at least one wolf at a wildlife park in Baruth/Mark, a town south of Berlin, German police said.
The attack occurred inside an animal enclosure at Johannismühle wildlife park during a small group tour. The girl was accompanied by a staff member and two other children, none of whom were injured. Police stated the precise circumstances are under investigation.
The park, which houses brown bears, lynx, and grey and arctic wolves, has temporarily closed without providing further details.
The incident follows a series of animal attacks at European wildlife facilities in recent weeks. A zookeeper died after being mauled by a leopard at a Dutch zoo in Hilvarenbeek, and a man was killed by a tiger at a wildlife park in Yorkshire, England. In March, a woman was bitten by a wolf in a shopping area in Hamburg, believed to be the first such attack since wolves returned to Germany in 1998.
