An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured in a wolf attack at the Johannismühle wildlife park in Brandenburg, Germany, on Wednesday, police said.

Incident details

The girl was inside an enclosure with a staff member and two other children when the attack occurred. She suffered head injuries and was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. No one else was injured.

Park closure and investigation

The park, located in Baruth/Mark, has been temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen on 2 November. Police are investigating the precise circumstances of the incident.

Park features and recent attacks

Johannismühle keeps grey and Arctic wolves, along with brown bears and lynxes. The park offers small group tours that include feeding wolves or petting a llama. The attack happened before the park's official opening at 10:00 local time, and the girl may have been participating in a special visit.

The incident follows other recent animal attacks in Europe, including a zookeeper killed by a leopard at a Dutch zoo and a man killed by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park earlier this month.
