Sergio Perez Extends Cadillac Contract Through 2029

By Sohaib Shams

Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Cadillac Formula One team that will keep him with the American outfit until 2029.

Veteran driver reaches milestone

The 36-year-old Mexican is set to make his 300th Grand Prix start at his home race in Mexico City this weekend. He joined Cadillac last August ahead of their debut season, partnering fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas.

Career highlights and Red Bull exit

Perez made his Formula One debut in 2011 and has won six grands prix – five for Red Bull between 2021 and 2024 and one for Racing Point, now Aston Martin, in 2020. He finished third in the 2022 drivers' championship and second behind teammate Max Verstappen in 2023. Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Red Bull dropped him at the end of the 2024 season after deciding he could no longer support Verstappen.

Difficult start for Cadillac

In the 2026 standings Perez sits last, with three 14th-place finishes – in Barcelona, Silverstone and Azerbaijan – as his best results. Neither he nor Bottas has scored a point for the new team.

Perez committed to long-term project

"Joining Cadillac from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," Perez said. "Building a Formula One team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed to the next three years."
