Jannik Sinner has confirmed the end of his five-year partnership with coach Darren Cahill, a move that comes after the Italian lost his world No. 1 ranking.
Successful partnership ends
Cahill, a veteran Australian coach, had been a key part of Sinner’s entourage since 2021. Under his guidance, alongside Italian coach Simone Vagnozzi, Sinner captured five Grand Slam titles and spent 95 weeks atop the ATP rankings.
Wimbledon bet extended Cahill’s stay
Cahill had planned to retire at the end of the 2025 season but agreed to stay for another year after Sinner won his second Wimbledon title in July. The pair had made a bet that a Wimbledon victory would give Sinner the right to decide Cahill’s future.
Sinner sidelined by knee injury
Sinner has been out of action since his Wimbledon triumph due to a knee injury. In a statement, he thanked Cahill for his belief, honesty, and dedication, saying the coach helped him grow both as a player and a person.
New coaching structure
Vagnozzi will remain on the team, while Swedish coach Magnus Norman, the long-time mentor of recently retired three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, will join at the beginning of December. Sinner is targeting a return to competition later this year at the rescheduled Six Kings Slam.
