Jamie Lee Curtis became visibly emotional while discussing the legacy of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele during an appearance on ABC's daytime talk show "The View" on Wednesday. The 67-year-old actress was promoting her new sitcom "Newlyweds" when she was asked about being the inaugural recipient of the Children's Institute's Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award.
Emotional tribute on 'The View'
The award was established after the Reiners, aged 78 and 70, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home in December 2025. Their son Nick, 33, is due in court next year to face murder charges. Curtis, a longtime friend of the couple, paused to compose herself before describing them as "incredible people" filled with love and activism. She said the award honors their work with the Children's Institute, run by Michele's sister Martine Singer. Curtis will receive the award at the institute's gala on November 8.
Longtime friendship and activism
Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest were married at Reiner's house, where he served as best man. She also participated in a tribute to the couple at the September Emmy Awards. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Curtis said the experience was "a little tougher than I anticipated," praising Reiner's political savvy and ability to find common ground, and describing the couple's daily activism for progressive policies.
