Manchester United manager Michael Carrick and captain Bruno Fernandes held clear-the-air talks on Tuesday at the club's Carrington training ground, aiming to repair their relationship after a public fallout.
Fallout after Como defeat
Fernandes criticized Carrick's tactics and the team's lack of pressing following United's 4-1 loss to Como last week. Four days later, the reigning PFA Player of the Year was dropped for the 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth, with Carrick calling it a "pure football" decision.
Carrick retains position
Despite speculation about Carrick's future, United decided against sacking the 45-year-old, and he will take charge of Saturday's trip to Chelsea. The Tuesday meeting could pave the way for Fernandes' return to the starting lineup.
Fernandes' form concerns
Fernandes has struggled for form this season, failing to score in his last seven appearances, with his only Premier League goals coming in an August hat-trick against Ipswich. Carrick preferred summer signings Youri Tielemans and Mason Mount over Fernandes against Bournemouth.
