Sergio Perez has agreed a contract extension with the Cadillac Formula 1 team that will keep him with the American squad through at least the 2029 season. The announcement comes days before Perez's home race, the Mexico City Grand Prix, which will mark his 300th career start in Formula 1.
Perez commits to long-term project
The Mexican driver, who joined Cadillac for its debut season in 2026, said the extension felt like a natural continuation of a project he believed in from day one. Cadillac have yet to score a point this season amid new power unit regulations, but the team expressed confidence in Perez's talent and leadership to help them progress up the grid.
CEO highlights continuity
Cadillac Formula 1 Team CEO Dan Towriss said securing Perez's commitment provides the continuity needed to build on the foundation established in their first year. Perez, a six-time race winner, has previously driven for Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull.
Bottas future remains uncertain
Meanwhile, the future of Perez's teammate Valtteri Bottas at Cadillac is still unclear. Bottas dismissed rumors linking him with a possible replacement by Esteban Ocon, Yuki Tsunoda or Colton Herta, stating he is happy with his current situation. Team principal Marcin Budkowski declined to discuss driver contracts at a recent FIA press conference, fueling speculation.
