Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has disclosed that his long-standing feud with former protégé Gordon Ramsay originated from Ramsay bringing a television crew to White's wedding in 2000.
Wedding cameras sparked feud
White, 64, told The Times that Ramsay's decision to film at his wedding to ex-wife Mati Conejero caused a years-long silence between the two chefs. "Would you be happy if I brought a camera crew to your wedding?" White said. "Why bring it up? Let sleeping dogs lie. Not clever."
Denial of other rumors
White dismissed several rumored reasons for the fallout, including anger over Ramsay leaving his restaurant Harvey's in 1989, an overcooked red mullet incident, and a reported confrontation involving a steamer. He confirmed, however, that Ramsay cried during his final service at Harvey's. "Gordon cracked," White said.
Reunion for BBC series
The former friends have reunited for a new BBC series titled "The Rise of the Rockstar Chef," which also features Heston Blumenthal. The program explores the fights and feuds that marked their early restaurant careers.
Jamie Oliver excluded
White initially declined to participate because Jamie Oliver was slated to appear. He agreed only after Ramsay's production company removed Oliver. White cited Oliver's lack of Michelin stars, noting that White, Ramsay, and Blumenthal each hold three stars. "Jamie has no stars. He belongs to a different jigsaw," White said.
