Jennifer Lawrence has confirmed she will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming prequel "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20.
Podcast Revelation
The Oscar-winning actor made the announcement during an appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast hosted by Alex Cooper. Lawrence described returning to the franchise as "unbelievable" and noted that the production reunited her with the same crew, including the same assistant director she has worked with repeatedly.
Emotional Reunion with Co-Stars
Lawrence said working again with Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson, who portray Peeta Mellark and Haymitch Abernathy, was "so emotional." She recalled that she and Hutcherson "didn't walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other," and joked that Harrelson "came through the window of my hotel room uninvited."
Franchise Background
The original four "Hunger Games" films, adapted from Suzanne Collins' dystopian novels, grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide between 2012 and 2015. Collins later expanded the series with the prequel novel "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," which was adapted into a 2023 film starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth.
New Prequel Details

The ensemble cast includes McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, and Billy Porter.
