Protesters Storm Rome's Colosseum in Large Demonstrations

By Basant El-Faramawy

Hundreds of protesters and students forced their way into Rome's historic Colosseum on Saturday, October 24. The demonstration was part of a series of protests directed against Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government and the ongoing war in Gaza.

Widespread Unrest Across Italy

During the occupation of the landmark, protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in French, including “Tout le monde déteste la police” (Everyone hates the police). The incident in Rome was part of a broader wave of unrest, as thousands of young people took to the streets in various Italian cities, including Milan and Turin.

The situation in Milan had previously escalated, leading to the deployment of soldiers following violent clashes between demonstrators and authorities earlier in the week.
