Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has clarified that his wave to supporters following the 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth was not a farewell. Despite the gesture, Carrick admitted his future at the club remains uncertain following a period of poor results.
Uncertainty Surrounding Managerial Position
The defeat to Bournemouth marks a difficult stretch for United, who have recorded their worst start to a season in 40 years. This loss follows a 4-1 defeat to Como, resulting in two consecutive matches where the team conceded three or more goals. During the match, Bournemouth supporters directed chants at Carrick regarding his potential dismissal.
Carrick noted that he had a brief discussion with the club's hierarchy after the game but stated he is unsure whether chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox will decide to sack him. He emphasized that he is continuing with his duties as normal and expressed his love for the club, stating he will do what is best for Manchester United regardless of the eventual decision.
Player Reaction and Fan Support
Addressing the atmosphere within the squad, Carrick mentioned that the players are deeply affected by the current slump. He described the changing room as filled with disappointment and emotion, noting that the recent performances are clearly hurting the players.
Despite the heavy loss, Carrick expressed gratitude for the support shown by Manchester United fans. He noted that while he experienced mixed emotions, he felt a strong sense of connection and appreciation from the supporters as he headed toward the tunnel.
