Co-stars remember Koenig
William Shatner, 95, who portrayed Captain James T. Kirk, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying he was "deeply saddened" by Koenig's passing. Shatner noted that while they were not close off-set, Koenig genuinely loved the Star Trek community and preferred engaging with fans at conventions rather than staying behind a signing table.
George Takei, 89, who played Hikaru Sulu, described Koenig as a "thoughtful man" and "loyal friend" of nearly six decades. Takei recalled Koenig serving as best man at his 2008 wedding and sharing a birthday anniversary last month.
Kim Cattrall, who appeared in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, wrote on Instagram: "Rest well dear Walter. It was a pleasure sharing the bridge with you."
Adam Nimoy, son of the late Leonard Nimoy and a TV director, shared a photo from the episode "The Apple," calling Koenig "such a nice guy" and a pleasure on the convention circuit.

Koenig joined Star Trek for its second season in 1967 and reprised the role of the Russian navigator in seven Star Trek films. He also authored the 1980 book Chekov's Enterprise. In the 1990s, he played the psychic villain Alfred Bester in the series Babylon 5. His film credits included Moontrap and Drawing Down the Moon. Later in his career, he directed, wrote, and taught, while maintaining a presence at fan conventions. He voiced the son of his original character in the final season of Star Trek: Picard in 2023.
