Celebrity Traitors contestant Nick Mohammed has disclosed what happens when the cast leaves the Scottish castle each night, revealing a more elaborate process than the show depicts. The Ted Lasso actor, who appeared in the BBC series' inaugural season alongside Celia Imrie and Joe Marler, shared the details on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast.
Castle Exit Process
Mohammed explained that the convoy of Land Rovers seen on screen is designed to prevent contestants from knowing who is heading in which direction. After filming ends, participants are taken to a holding area and dismissed at random, so no one can tell if someone has been eliminated early.
Holding Area and Magic Tricks
The actor, a trained close-up magician, said much time is spent in the holding area. He recalled performing magic tricks for fellow contestants, including Claire Baldwin, while Jonathan Ross also demonstrated a trick.
Hotel Accommodation
Despite cutaway scenes showing contestants preparing for bed in Andross Castle bedrooms, the entire cast — celebrity and non-celebrity alike — is actually driven to a hotel where they all sleep.
Isolation and Family Contact
Mohammed described the isolation of filming, with no access to phones or the outside world. He was allowed one daily FaceTime call with his children, but producers listened in to prevent leaks. The uncertainty of the schedule meant he could be away for 48 hours or up to three weeks, which turned out to be the case.
Competition Outcome
Mohammed survived the entire game as a Faithful, reaching the finale and finishing as joint runner-up alongside historian David Olusoga. Alan Carr ultimately won the series.
Daisy May Cooper's Withdrawal
In a separate interview, Daisy May Cooper revealed she and her brother Charlie were originally set to compete but withdrew after learning about the living conditions and the two-week separation from family. Cooper shares two children with her ex-husband and a two-year-old son with partner Anthony Huggins.
Second Season Underway
The second season of Celebrity Traitors is currently airing on the BBC, with Traitors Maya Jama, James Acaster, and King Kenny (real name Kenny Oghenovo Ojuederie) attempting to evade detection until the finale on Friday, 30 October.
