Trump Defends Controversial Ramaswamy Ad Targeting Amy Acton

By Ahmed Abdelsalam

President Donald Trump has maintained his support for a controversial campaign advertisement released by Ohio GOP gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The ad features Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Democratic candidate Amy Acton, claiming that her daughter has been dishonest about her past and childhood struggles.

Trump Dismisses Allegations and Defends Ad

Speaking to reporters while leaving the White House, Trump dismissed criticisms regarding the personal nature of the advertisement. He characterized the ad as a mother speaking out against her daughter, asserting that the content is fair game in a political campaign. Trump further insisted that the advertisement has no connection to the allegations involving Acton's stepfather, who was criminally charged with sexual abuse.

Republican Leaders Call for Ad Removal

The advertisement has drawn sharp condemnation from several prominent Republicans. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine described the ad as deeply troubling and urged the Ramaswamy campaign to stop airing it. Similarly, Iowa Republican Senate candidate Representative Ashley Hinson called for the ad to be taken down, despite later appearing on stage with Trump at a campaign rally.

Amy Acton Responds to Attack

Amy Acton has publicly condemned the advertisement, labeling it as despicable and exploitative. She noted that she has been estranged from her mother since the age of 12 and has been open about her experiences with childhood abuse. While Acton characterized the ad as horrible, Ramaswamy addressed the controversy during a rally, stating that the content was not related to childhood abuse.
