Monty Don has presented his final episode of BBC's Gardeners' World, ending a 23-year run as host of the flagship gardening programme. The 71-year-old signed off from Longmeadow, the private garden that has served as the show's base for 16 years, in an episode broadcast on Friday.
Final episode at Longmeadow
Accompanied by his dog Ned, Don thanked viewers and reflected on the garden's evolution since he took over from Alan Titchmarsh in 2003. He noted the passing of his previous dogs Nigel, Nellie and Patty, and described the privilege of sharing his gardening life with the audience.
Future appearances
Don will remain part of the presenting team for next year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show and will feature in two winter specials expected to air before Christmas. One special will review his tenure and the changes at Longmeadow. Details of the next Gardeners' World series will be announced later.
Career highlights
Before Gardeners' World, Don hosted Tomorrow's World and Holiday, and presented a gardening segment on This Morning. He stepped away for three years after a minor stroke in 2008, returning to film the show at his own garden. His final episode is available on BBC iPlayer.
