Irish actor Barry Keoghan has undergone a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment after speaking publicly about the toll of online abuse directed at his appearance.
Treatment details
The 34-year-old Oscar nominee appeared in a social media video posted by UK celebrity facial expert Nilam Holmes, founder of Dermaspa, receiving the Xerf treatment. The procedure, which costs $3,500 for face and neck, uses radio-frequency technology to tighten skin and stimulate collagen renewal. Keoghan described the sessions as “very relaxing and therapeutic” and said he feels “better about myself; I look better.” Holmes, who has also treated clients such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Joe Alwyn, noted that Keoghan’s skin has improved significantly over recent years.
Impact of online abuse
Earlier this year, Keoghan revealed that relentless negative comments about his looks had made him reluctant to leave his home or attend public events, and had begun to affect his work. “It’s becoming a problem,” he said in a March interview. Despite the abuse, he emphasized gratitude for his supportive fan base. Keoghan recently starred in the Peaky Blinders film and is set to portray Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’s upcoming Beatles project, while also reprising his role as the Joker in The Batman: Part II.
