Trump Names Stephen Miller White House Chief of Staff

By Basant El-Faramawy

President Donald Trump announced Friday that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will step down this week, with Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller succeeding her effective Monday, November 9, 2026. The president made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, praising Wiles for an “outstanding job” and stating she will move to the Trump Political Operation.

Wiles confirmed her departure in a post on X, saying Friday would be her last day. “Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime,” she wrote, highlighting achievements on border security, tax cuts, and the economy. She pledged continued commitment to the president and his mission.

Miller's background and previous roles

Miller has served as White House deputy chief of staff for policy and as a homeland security adviser. He played a central role in the administration’s hard-line immigration and deportation policies. Miller previously worked as an adviser and speechwriting director during Trump’s first term and spent years as a congressional aide to Republican lawmakers.

The appointment marks a reversal from mid-October, when Trump said there was “zero chance” he would replace Wiles following media reports of her potential post-election departure. The change comes after the 2026 midterm elections.
