Comedian and social media personality Jordan Firstman has premiered his debut feature film "Club Kid" at the New York Film Festival, marking a transition from Instagram provocateur to filmmaker. The screening was followed by an after-party at Indochine in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood.
From Instagram to Independent Film
Firstman, 35, spent the first decade of his career as a comedian, television writer, and self-described Instagram troublemaker. His feature directorial debut sees him write, direct, and star as Peter, a queer party promoter exhausted by a decade of late nights and club drugs whose life changes with the arrival of a child he does not remember fathering.
Sentimental Turn in Provocative Package
Despite opening with hallucinatory scenes of casual sex and substance use, "Club Kid" takes a nakedly sentimental turn, a choice critics note as provocative for a filmmaker known for boundary-pushing online persona. The film co-stars Reggie Absolom as the child Arlo, alongside Josh Hutcherson and François Arnaud in supporting roles.
Festival Reception and Personal Growth
At the post-screening party, Firstman appeared emotional while greeting fans and collaborators, including "I Love L.A." castmate Hutcherson and "Heated Rivalry" actor Arnaud. The morning after, Firstman described the experience as personal growth, contrasting his character's "Ketamine Barbie" T-shirt with his own corduroy pants and weekend-dad demeanor.
