England manager Thomas Tuchel has left Cole Palmer out of his 25-man squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, stating the Chelsea forward has missed too many training camps and opportunities to impress.
Trust in September camp players
Speaking at a press conference at Wembley, Tuchel said he has "enough" number tens in the group and opted to trust the players who impressed during the two-and-a-half-week camp in September. The squad includes Morgan Rogers, Morgan Gibbs-White, Eberechi Eze, and Jude Bellingham in attacking midfield roles, along with first-time call-ups Josh King and Jobe Bellingham, who offer positional versatility.
Palmer's absence explained
"It counts when you are in camp and I just said it last time, he misses too many opportunities to impress," Tuchel said. "The players who were in camp built something extraordinary throughout these weeks. That's why the credit goes to them. The trust is for them." He added that the decision is not personal and that competition for places remains open.
Recent form and disciplinary issue
Palmer has not played for England since March and missed the World Cup due to injury struggles last season. Although he has featured in all nine of Chelsea's Premier League matches this season, he was sent off in the defeat to Tottenham. Tuchel emphasized that the current offensive group performed impressively throughout the entire camp, justifying their retention.
