A low pressure system over the US Midwest has pulled unusually warm air from the Gulf of Mexico into the Northeast, pushing temperatures in New York and Boston to around 23°C (73.4°F) — 7 to 10°C above early November norms. The warmth also reached eastern Canada, where readings exceeded 20°C, 10 to 15°C above average.
Eastern US Heat
The balmy conditions are expected to ease as the low pressure area drifts eastward, allowing temperatures to return closer to seasonal averages.
Severe Storms Disrupt Voting
Further south, severe thunderstorms triggered flood and evacuation warnings across multiple states, disrupting midterm voting in Florida, Oklahoma, and Colorado. A tornado touched down in Keyes, Oklahoma, forcing a polling station relocation and causing extensive damage, though no casualties were reported. Officials in affected states have requested federal disaster assistance.
Mediterranean Flood Threat
Across the Atlantic, low pressure over the Mediterranean brought torrential rain and severe flood warnings to southern France, Corsica, and Sardinia. Forecasts call for 50–100 mm (2–4 inches) of rain over the coming days, with localized totals exceeding 100 mm in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Occitanie, and Corsica. Some areas could see 70–80 mm in 24 hours. Further rain is expected next week as low pressure continues to dominate the region.
