Former Detroit health director and progressive politician Abdul El-Sayed has proposed working with President-elect Donald Trump to reduce U.S. aid to Israel, a stance that has surprised observers in Washington.
Unexpected Common Ground
El-Sayed, a prominent Muslim American voice in Democratic politics, said he has identified cutting military assistance to Israel as an area where he could cooperate with the incoming administration.
Progressive Critique of Aid Policy
The proposal reflects growing progressive pressure to condition U.S. support for Israel on human rights compliance, though El-Sayed's willingness to engage Trump directly marks a tactical departure from mainstream Democratic strategy.
