President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday declaring the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room national historic landmarks, a move intended to prevent future alterations to the spaces.
Executive Order Signed November 5
The order was signed on November 5, 2026, during a ceremony in the Oval Office. The designation aims to preserve the rooms' current condition, including the gold-covered decor installed during Trump's tenure.
Preemptive Protection Against Changes
By granting landmark status, the administration seeks to block any future president from modifying the Oval Office's design or furnishings. The Cabinet Room received the same protection under the order.
