The family of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has launched a YouTube channel dedicated to lung cancer awareness, two years after her death from the disease at age 56. Wojcicki, a mother of five, died in August 2024 after being diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in 2022, despite never having smoked.
Channel to feature creators and experts
The channel, launched by the Susan Wojcicki Foundation at the start of Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November, will feature scientists and influencers such as MrBeast and Lilly Singh. It aims to share life-saving information through interviews, shorts, and videos that make the science clear and relatable.
Creators reflect on Wojcicki's legacy
In the first video, creators reflected on Wojcicki's impact. Singh, a Canadian YouTuber since 2010, praised her support for creators and said she revolutionized platform-creator relationships, making creators feel valued and seen.
Wojcicki's personal experience
Before her death, Wojcicki wrote that she had been blindsided by the diagnosis because she had almost no symptoms and had never smoked. She expressed a goal to fight for better understanding and cures for the disease.
Foundation aims to close knowledge gap
Kelly Galvin, the foundation's chief communications and marketing officer, said lung cancer is often misunderstood with a real knowledge gap. The channel will bring together creators, scientists, nonprofits, and patients to share what the science says in an accessible way, covering topics such as risk, screening, and new advances.
