Sir Tom Jones, 86, told an audience at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday that he believed he was about to die when he was rushed to UCLA Medical Center last week with pneumonia. The singer said he initially thought he had the flu before the condition worsened, leaving him unable to breathe.
Two days in intensive care
Jones spent two days in the intensive care unit before being released. He credited the hospital for his recovery and recalled telling doctors he needed to return to the stage, prompting cheers from fans. The singer had rescheduled his Los Angeles concert and a San Diego show, which went ahead earlier this week. He is scheduled to perform November 6 at the Yaamava’ Theater in Highland, California.
Recent career developments
Last month, Jones announced on Instagram that ITV had decided to remove him from The Voice U.K. coaching panel ahead of its 2027 series. The Welsh singer, known for 1960s hits such as “It’s Not Unusual” and “Delilah,” has won a Grammy, two Brit Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award, and was knighted in 2006.
