American Sentenced to Life for Murders of Partner, Infant Daughter in Rome

By Karim Hammam

An Italian court on Thursday sentenced Francis Kaufmann, 47, to life in prison for the murders of his partner Anastasia Trofimova, 28, and their nearly one-year-old daughter Andromeda in Rome.

Crime and Investigation

The bodies were discovered naked in Rome’s Villa Pamphili park in June 2025. Trofimova’s body was found under a black bag, killed several days before the infant, who was located in nearby undergrowth. Neither victim carried identification.

Flight and Extradition

Kaufmann fled to the Greek island of Skiathos after the killings and was extradited to Italy to face trial. He denied the charges throughout the proceedings.

Background and Scandal

Kaufmann, a self-described filmmaker using the alias Rexal Ford, had secured $1 million in Italian tax credits for a film that was never produced. The scandal led to the resignation of the head of the Culture Ministry’s film department.
