Adam Driver has confirmed that a standalone film centered on his Star Wars character Kylo Ren will not move forward, declaring the project dead.
Pitch rejected by Disney
Driver and director Steven Soderbergh had spent several years developing a movie titled "The Hunt for Ben Solo" with writers Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt, but Disney declined the proposal.
'Ship has sailed'
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, the 42-year-old actor said Lucasfilm told him "No, he's dead," adding that he believes the opportunity has passed.
Lucasfilm dismisses spin-off
Lucasfilm co-president Dave Filoni echoed that sentiment at the D23 event, telling fans "the Force is not with us" regarding a Kylo Ren spin-off.
Co-star reaction
Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the sequel trilogy, said she had heard rumblings about the project before Driver made it public.
Other remarks
Driver also briefly addressed allegations from Girls creator Lena Dunham during a Cannes press conference, stating he had no comment and was saving his response for a future book.
