Man Who Posed as Medical Student Fails to Appear for Sentencing

By Fatma Younis

Police are searching for Stephen Simpson, 22, after he failed to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing on fraud charges. Simpson previously admitted posing as a medical student at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary between 9 December 2023 and 26 January 2024.

Court Issues Arrest Warrant

Sheriff William Summers issued a warrant for Simpson's arrest following his non-appearance. Defence solicitor Laura Gracie told the court she had been in contact with her client but he did not attend.

Details of the Fraud

Simpson wore medical scrubs, NHS-branded clothing, a stethoscope and a pager to gain access to restricted areas, staff-only zones, wards and patient files. He also admitted stealing NHS clothing, a pager and perfume.

He originally faced six charges, later pleading guilty to two amended charges. A previous sentencing hearing was deferred after Simpson cited a migraine.
