Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta declined to elaborate on his angry reaction to 16-year-old Max Dowman's red card in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town. The Gunners lost on penalties after Dowman was sent off for violent conduct in the 85th minute.
Arteta's post-match comments
Arteta said he needed to review the incident before assessing it, telling Sky Sports: "It's difficult to see on the cameras like that so I'd prefer to watch it back properly." Asked if Dowman could learn from the dismissal, Arteta replied: "Yeah, we all learn from everything, yeah." He later revealed to BBC Radio 5 Live that his words to Dowman as he left the pitch were "something that we discussed already before the match."
Suspension and squad impact
Dowman will now serve a three-match Premier League suspension, beginning with Sunday's trip to Liverpool. The ban comes as Arsenal are already without first-choice right winger Bukayo Saka due to injury, while second-choice Noni Madueke could also be unavailable, meaning Dowman had been in line for a potential start at Anfield.
