An escaped Tennessee prisoner serving a life sentence for murder was captured in Missouri on Tuesday after more than a week on the run, authorities said.
Escape from Tennessee prison
Jacob Morley, 28, slipped through a fence at the Northwest Correctional Complex in northwestern Tennessee on Oct. 25 and stole a truck from a nearby farm, surveillance video showed.
Week on the run
Morley drove the stolen truck to Marion, Illinois, about 127 miles away, where he abandoned it and walked to a farm. He stayed in a shed used by hunters, consumed beer and prepared food, and left a handwritten apology note after taking another truck from the property, Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich said.
Capture near Kansas City
Roadside cameras and a helicopter tracked Morley as he traveled west on Interstate 70. His truck became stuck in mud near Kansas City, Missouri, where he was arrested on Nov. 3. Two rifles and a shotgun were recovered from the vehicle.
Legal proceedings
Morley is being held at the Lafayette County Jail in Lexington, Missouri. Tennessee Attorney General Danny Goodman Jr. said Morley could face charges in Missouri, Illinois and federal court, and plans to file additional charges in Tennessee. No charges have been filed in Missouri courts yet.
