Vance: Iran War Cost GOP Midterms; Trump: 'I'd Do It Again'

Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday that the Trump administration's ongoing war with Iran was responsible for Republicans' significant losses in Tuesday's midterm elections, which saw Democrats regain control of both chambers of Congress.

Vance Points to War as Decisive Factor

In a lengthy social media post, Vance wrote that "the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone," citing conversations with pollsters who indicated many 2024 Trump voters switched to Democrats due to anger over the conflict.

Trump Defends Decision Despite Electoral Cost

President Donald Trump, asked about Vance's comments, acknowledged they were "largely true" but insisted he would make the same decision again to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Voter Poll Highlights Multiple Concerns

An ABC News voter poll found 34% of House voters nationally considered the Iran war crucial to their vote, while 49% cited the cost of living and 55% pointed to government corruption.

Economic Issues Also Weighed on Voters

The poll also showed 59% of voters were very concerned about healthcare costs, and 60% believed the federal government should play a larger role in healthcare access.

Vance Rejects Turnout Explanation

Vance argued Republican turnout was not the problem, stating that 2024 Trump voters "showed up" but were "pissed and planning to vote for the other guys."
