One person was killed and two others critically injured Wednesday when a Robinson R44 II helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay near Miami, authorities said.
Crash Details
The helicopter went down late Wednesday morning while its three adult male occupants were photographing boats near Bill Baggs State Park off Key Biscayne, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue and Casualties
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said the two survivors were taken to a trauma center in critical but stable condition. A good Samaritan attempted to pull one victim to shore, but Miami firefighters were unable to save him. Border protection officers located the other two men and transferred them to rescue workers.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Recent heavy showers in South Florida have not been confirmed as a factor. Video footage showed the aircraft upside down underwater with emergency floats deployed.
