Trump Wealth Declines After Democratic Midterm Victory

By Sohaib Shams

Donald Trump's investment assets have fallen sharply after Democrats defeated Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections, erasing gains from his first year in office. Despite the declines, Forbes estimated in September that Trump remains $2.7 billion wealthier than when he won the White House in 2024.

Trump Media stock hits record low

Trump Media & Technology Group shares dropped to just over $5 on Tuesday, the lowest ever, down from an all-time high of $101. The stock lost 11% overnight as election results came in. Trump owns 114 million shares, over 40% through a trust.

World Liberty Financial tokens plummet

The WLFI governance token of World Liberty Financial, a venture by the Trump and Witkoff families, fell below 5 cents after the election, down from a 2025 peak of 31 cents. The decline accelerated as polls closed. Trump holds 15 billion tokens and reported over $500 million in profit from crypto sales last year. World Liberty was created by the Trump family and the family of Steven Witkoff, a real estate developer and personal friend whom Trump appointed to negotiate diplomatic arrangements on Gaza, Iran, and Ukraine.

Trump-branded novelty coins also collapse

Separate Trump$ coins, which generated $636 million in sales in 2025, dropped to about $1.40, losing roughly 10% overnight. They had briefly traded as high as $45 in January 2025.

Analysts link asset values to Trump's popularity

Georgetown University professor Jim Angel said the value of DJT and WLFI tokens has always been tied to perceptions of Trump. "People think they're investing in Trump. They're really betting on his popularity," Angel said, noting his popularity is at record lows.

Stablecoin and banking license unaffected

World Liberty Financial also issues a dollar-pegged stablecoin, USDI1, which does not fluctuate dramatically. The Trump administration recently granted the company a banking license.
