Democrats Take Control of Congress in Midterm Elections

By Basant El-Faramawy

Democrats have taken control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives after voters in traditionally Republican strongholds turned against Donald Trump’s party in the midterm elections.

Texas flipped blue as James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton. Other major Senate victories included Roy Cooper in North Carolina, Troy Jackson in Maine, Annie Andrews in South Carolina, Sherrod Brown in Ohio, Adam Hamilton in Kansas, and Josh Turek in Iowa.

In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed made history by defeating Republican Mike Rogers to become the first Muslim elected to the US Senate.
