Florida authorities said two people were killed, including a suspect, after a shooting Wednesday at Citibank's sprawling business complex in the Tampa area. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to an active threat and cleared the campus, which comprises four three-story office buildings housing thousands of employees.
Sheriff Calls Incident Targeted
Sheriff Chad Chronister posted on social media that the shooting appeared to be a targeted incident. The sheriff's office confirmed a suspect and one other person were dead; it was not immediately known if anyone else was injured.
Citigroup Cooperates With Investigation
Citigroup said it was aware of the incident and was cooperating with law enforcement. The banking giant's campus in suburban Tampa employs thousands of workers.
Worker Describes Escape
Doug Merritt said his son called him from the campus after hearing gunshots and fled the building. Merritt told The Associated Press he was unable to reach his son for about an hour due to a poor internet connection.
