Bellarmine Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe's late former president Robert Mugabe, has been arrested alongside four other men in connection with an assault case that emerged during a probe into the alleged smuggling of two luxury vehicles into the country.
Arrests and Charges
Police said the 29-year-old was detained on Tuesday along with Munashe Mubawu, 43, Terrence Johannes Chinyemba, 42, Fredson Peter, 33, and Solomon Pamire, 34. The arrests relate to an assault that occurred at the Brompton Guest Lodge in Harare at about 18:30 local time on 3 November, according to a police statement.
Smuggling Investigation
The assault investigation is linked to a broader inquiry by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission into the suspected illegal importation of two vehicles, which have since been seized. Local media outlet The New Zimbabwe reported that the five men were arrested during that probe.
Court Appearance
All five suspects are due to appear in court on 5 November.
