A new plant-based hotel has opened on Menorca's rugged north coast, transforming a historic 18th-century farm into a sustainable luxury retreat.
Location and Setting
Vestige Binidufà sits on 800 acres of rolling hills near Ciutadella, about 45 minutes from Mahón airport. The estate includes a private red-sand cove visited by nesting turtles, accessible by golf buggy, and lies near the 185km Camí de Cavalls hiking trail.
Design and Restoration
Owned by Spanish company Vestige Collection, the property centers on a restored 18th-century finca. Heritage building methods were used, including traditional stonemasonry, ancient stone-cutting techniques, and custom-made furniture. An infinity pool anchors the grounds amid olive and almond trees.
Accommodations
The hotel offers 11 rooms and suites decorated in muted plaster and terracotta tones with exposed stone walls, original beams, and rustic stone floors. All feature expansive bathrooms with poured-concrete tubs, zellige-tiled showers, and organic amenities by Rowse. Suites include balconies, terraces, or private gardens.
Plant-Based Dining
Both the pool bar and Mesura restaurant serve 100% plant-based menus with Middle Eastern influences, with options to add estate-reared meat or fresh-caught fish. The wine list highlights local and regional Spanish bottles, while cocktails incorporate local spirits and herbs such as the island's signature pomada.
Facilities and Activities
Guests can join guided hikes, bike rides, art tours of Ciutadella, and horseback riding for additional fees. Complimentary yoga sessions are offered several days a week. The property includes an outdoor pool with a shallow area, and guests may access facilities at sister hotel Son Ermita, a short golf buggy ride away.
Practical Details
Check-in is at 3pm, check-out at 12pm. Children of all ages are welcome with cots, high chairs, and adapted menus available. One fully adapted room is offered for accessibility. Rates start from £541 per room. Pets are not permitted.
