A British citizen in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for Ebola, the UK government confirmed. The patient will be evacuated to the UK for treatment, while officials say the risk to the British public remains low.
The case comes amid an ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Central African nation caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain, which began in May. The outbreak has surpassed 10,000 cases with nearly 5,000 deaths across four African countries.
A government spokesperson stated the risk to the UK public is low. The patient's evacuation and treatment in the UK are being arranged.
