Warwick Davis, 56, will reprise his role as Hogwarts charms professor Filius Flitwick in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series, which premieres on Christmas Day. He is the only original film cast member to return for the new adaptation.

First day nerves

Speaking at the opening of the new UK Harry Potter flagship store on Oxford Street, Davis told the Press Association that his first day on set was "terrifying." He questioned whether he could still portray the character after so many years and wanted to ensure this version of Flitwick felt slightly different.

Honoured return

Davis said he felt honoured to step back into the role, calling it a lovely experience to see the wizarding world reimagined. He advised the new young cast members to fully immerse themselves in the world so the audience would believe it too.

Emotional costume fitting

The actor described putting on the new costume as emotional, knowing he will play Flitwick for the next decade. He approached the character as fresher, more vibrant, and a little cheekier while maintaining the professor's expert integrity.

Flagship store draws crowds

The store opening attracted fans who lined up overnight. Davis noted the enduring enthusiasm for Harry Potter, saying people need magic in the world and the shop offers an immersive experience.

Protests over Rowling's views

Transgender rights protesters gathered outside the store during the opening, criticizing author JK Rowling's public stance on gender identity. Rowling has previously stated that biological sex is "real" and "immutable" and has denied being transphobic.

New cast and faithful adaptation

The first season adapts "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The series aims to be a faithful adaptation while providing wider insight into the magical world beyond the films.
