Edinburgh Zoo has launched a public vote to name three newborn capybara pups born last week to parents Luna and Rodney.
Five naming themes offered
The triplets, two males and one female, were discovered last Wednesday and confirmed healthy after veterinary checks by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. The zoo is offering five sets of three names each, drawing on Scottish themes: food and drink (Tattie, Tunnock, Toddy), islands (Harris, Skye, Barra), geography terms (Ben, Cairn, Brae), characters from the sitcom Still Game (Jack, Victor, Isa), and space-themed names (Nova, Laika, Apollo) referencing mother Luna and the zoo's Giant Lanterns event.
Voting deadline
The birth follows May's arrival of Bru, the first capybara born in Scotland in 18 years. Head of animal care Darren McGarry said Bru is adjusting to no longer being the center of attention. Voting is open on the zoo's social media channels until Monday, 9 November.
