The White House doubled down on a message declaring Donald Trump “is still your president” on Wednesday, hours after Republicans suffered sweeping losses in the midterm elections that handed Democrats control of both the House and Senate.
Official social media post echoes communications director
The official White House account posted “PSA: TRUMP IS STILL YOUR PRESIDENT” alongside a photograph of Trump leaning on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, mimicking his signature sign-off. The post mirrored an earlier message from White House communications director Steven Cheung, who wrote on X that “Donald J. Trump is the President of the United States. Still your President!”
Mockery and ‘lame duck’ labels follow
Cheung’s post drew immediate mockery, with users labeling Trump a “lame duck president for the next 2 years” and criticizing the administration’s attempt to spin the results. A senior Senate GOP official told Politico the losses amounted to a “bloodbath” and placed responsibility on Trump.
Trump blames candidates, avoids responsibility
Trump has not posted on Truth Social since late Tuesday but told Fox News in a post-midnight interview that candidate quality was not the issue, calling the outcome a “bloodbath” and blaming GOP candidates for the defeats.
